Wow. (A)Couscous has really got it together. We actually stuck to our rehearsal schedule and got everything done we needed to, plus we showed stuff to the neighbors up the hill who came to see what we were doing after we talked to them yesterday (they came to see if our power was out, too, and stayed to talk). They loved Andrew's Prayer of Thanks round, though I wish they'd been there for the Vicentino. Still, they loved that and seemed interested in Ralph's new score when we got going on that.

And then we were done, and Jacob had really wanted me to learn his 31-tone spiral round, Try Dropping (actually titled Orwellian Spiral Canon No. 1: Getting Started). He had never written it down for me, and I didn't have great confidence in my ability to learn it by ear, so he casually sat down and started putting down in Sibelius FROM MEMORY. Phweah. And each verse descends by 12/5 of a half step. And he kept transposing and transposing. Sometimes I can't believe he exists.

AND THEN. The builders were taking care of dinner today so we could all rehearse/compose for the concert tomorrow, and it turns out they were making the dudest meal of the summer. Wood-charcoal grilled cow burgers with all sorts of fixings (with a couple vegan veggieburger options for Andrew and Denny), foil-grilled asparagus and onions, and a couple strips of BEAR MEAT for each person. It was fantastic. Bears taste good, especially braised. Apparently a stonemason neighbor had shot a bear and dropped off a couple legs last fall, and they'd kept in the freezer since then. I certainly wouldn't have known. The builders made really, really excellent dinner.

Tonight, you know who's supposed to show up and give a presentation? TOBY TWINING. Fingers crossed that circumstances don't change.
