Random outing to Buc-ee's with Dan this afternoon in the middle of some gnarly mathbook revisions. He apparently needed to find a trucker's hat for his brother's friend before he goes back to Atlanta. He made a 20-minute drive to Pearland, with me and my mom and Ella as small-roadtrip companions, only to find that one doesn't have hats.
Came back and spent the afternoon earning calluses, so now the Sailor cello tracks are revised (if not completely improved). It takes me 12 takes to get one I can stand to listen to. I also revised the texted backup harmony and am trying adding back some of the original tinny guitar track during the second verse in hopes it adds a mandolinny flavor. And re-balanced the vocal mix. So here are the revisions.
Final Fantasy dress rehearsal at Jones Hall with the orchestra was less sucky than the rehearsal with just chorus by ourselves. There's less time and inclination to spoon-feed us everything, so there's less pandering and more efficiency. Also, I love singing in that space with that huge an orchestra onstage. Part of a team, you know? Even if they're all jadedly, cynically hating the very musical experience they're creating. Nobuo Uematsu was in the audience, and I think he'll be there tomorrow night for the show.
