Home from an early morning and a lovely day at the Canton of Westgate Heraldic and Scribal Symposium. Omg metalworking. I started with basic heraldry, since it's been awhile since I read the books, and then I went to an etching demo to see what I'd be doing in the afternoon, and then a device design class, to think about what I might like my arms to be if I ever join the SCA for real.
Lunch was spectacular with chicken and rice and spinach-strawberry salad and peach cobbler and croissants, and then I got down with my metallic self. I made a couple medallions for Ansteorran insignia (awards for people who accomplish things), but I have so many ideas floating around, and we have four gallon bottles of muriatic acid sitting on a shelf from the days we had a funcitonal swimming pool. Hee.
Celtic knotwork and insular calligraphy were a step down in intensity from the earlier classes, but still enjoyable, and now I have a huge pile of resources on insular miniscule, anglo-saxon, and Book of Kells scripts so I can get proficient at them. Now I want to make things! I also have clothing ideas.
