Waking up at Stephan's with nowhere to be in a hurry is an experience I'd not had in awhile. There's a lot of music and poetry that happens.

We went to see Martel's Secret Garden as soon as we were really up, and it was lovely. I am ashamed to say it, but I was surprised. It seems the director, against whom I bear a grudge for usurping many of the actors we wanted to work with for Hair, relieved herself of the rigors of directing by casting the show properly. I respect and admire the majority of that cast, and I am proud of them for generally overcoming what I am led to believe was an inauspicious situation.

It was cool, too, to see bits of the Hair cast there and the band (who were there to support our Jesus, Charlie, who is their singer) again, a day after the cast party which felt like the end of the world.

I had an hour between the end of that and the time we were supposed to meet at the RMC for the end-of-year Thresher dinner. I made the mistake of finishing the soup I'd had to leave when we went to Martel. I am still stuffed, hours after the dinner's been over. I'm not the most patriotic member of the newspaper, as I'm there mostly for kicks with fixing people's mistakes. I'm more of a copynerd than a newspaperman, but the boys are a good time. Evan, Dan, Casey, Dylan, and Stephen made what was already a fun job into a lark in the wee hours. I managed to insinuate myself between the two most intensely concentrated centers of conversation, where I could listen with equal ease and amusement to Evan's tirades, Dan's obsessive layout revision ideas and caricature demonstrations, and Casey, Dylan and Stephen's sports jargon and surprisingly flirtatious ribbing of our very charismatic waiter.

The dinner, besides being thoroughly delicious (especially since the Thresher paid for it), was one of those fiercely and simultaneously cherished times. I will definitely miss a lot of the company next year.

Right as I arrived back at the RMC, it was time to be at Shepherd in the electronic music labs (I'd never been, before the other day's rehearsal with Jacob and crew; it's pretty electronic in there). Another microtonal rehearsal down. So fulfilling.

But now I will sleep as I did not actually last night.
