I cannot get over these concerts. I have never been more into anything onstage. I guess it showed. People kept telling me I was good. Flor even talked to me during last night's intermission and complimented me, and I reciprocated, as he takes such huge risks with the tempos and such that it's more exciting than any other symphony production I'd ever seen. He agreed that without risk there's no reward.
This afternoon wasn't quite as together as last night, but it was just as exciting. More so, in certain ways. It helped to know I had people out there. Also, Flor's cummerbund came unfastened during the loudest, most boisterous and exuberant part of the first movement of Chichester, and he had to stop conducting for a few beats to catch it. It didn't cooperate. I cracked up to high heaven, while singing, but I didn't miss a note, and it was in the middle of the rejoicement, so he looked right at me and cracked up, too. The countertenor waited till the last night to tell me a bunch of very sweetly-meant but condescending compliments and offer me entrance to the grad program at Roosevelt University (apparently he teaches there), so that was flattering but a bit strange.
Stephan brought Joodles, Catherine, Rebecca and MK. They didn't stay to meet me at the stage door, but Stephan said he was proud of me when I called and that, when I came up on the screen during Chichester, Joodles jumped in his seat and bit his fist. Rebecca left a voicemail saying how glad she was I talked her into coming, and Catherine texted me to jubilate.
I spent the rest of the afternoon catching up on Stargate with mama, and grinning. Bryan texted me in the middle of the day to hang out this evening, so maybe whatever's going on with him and Ben and Lauren and Stephan will become clear tonight.
I also listened to the Saint-Saens oratorio, and though of course there are problems with my aria, it is generally acceptable and people have complimented me on it and passed on unsolicited compliments they heard. So, nice.
