Well, wow.

I've never had such in involved, demanding, and rewarding night. Early on, with a return to Stephan's from the library, the energy was flagging a bit on my part. I swept, moved furniture, moved the stereo and finished my computer's dj setup, and retreated with my mess from the living room to Stephan's room to contemplate how little work I was going to be able to get done, and then got none done at all. People started arriving and Stephan dragged me out to interact, but it was standard party-pointlessness for me. I wandered a bit, observing, and ended up in the living room with a complement of other geeks. Someone (Paul) then had the utterly Rice-typical and comfortingly dorky idea to play Risk.

It was a slow start, since I'd only played once before, but I had a massive amount of help and advice from a conspirator and Bryan, who appointed himself my vizier. By the end, I was ruling the world. Though I had to take Byran to my house in between so he could go to sleep. Paul was rolling for me, so really he was the one ruling the world.

We ambled into the living room to observe a strip drinking card game, and a nicer collection of shirtless boys I've seldom seen. I got a heavenly backrub, an eyeful, and an idea I might want to check Stephan's room. Yep, he got wasted again, made some dumb moves, and ended up with Kim watching him till about 3:30. Paul and I watched the Bat Boy DVD with occasional pauses for him to drive people home, and for me to check on Stephan (it was gratifying that he preferred me as caretaker). By 4:30, everyone but the actual residents of the house and Paul had left, so he and I chatted till we crashed on the living room couches around 6:30.

There's a sense about my eventual adoption of the role of hostess, that I may have discharged some of what I owe the boys for room and board and genial company. I cleaned up a lot, delegated care, and answered questions about the house, pointing ways and finding lost shoes. It was a good night, and I enjoyed it more as a party than I usually ever enjoy parties. It's been a challenges trying to get some sleep, but since I'm not actually sleepy, I'm not too worried.
