Between Tonal Counterpoint and Studio, Stephan took me back to his house to finish the last House ep and start a movie, and Bryan's parents are here for the weekend. It was going really well; they were very pleasant, and seemed to like all three of us (Ben, Stephan and me; Bryan was at rehearsal), about whom they'd heard so much. But right as they were going to get food, they mentioned they were going to steal Bryan's car, like they'd heard someone else had; was I the one with the nickname? I wanted to crumple like a little piece of paper, right out of existence. I still feel terrible about that, and I am pathetically grateful the boys never actually did call me Grand Theft Auto, only joked about it. Man.

I apparently learned a revolutionary amount in my lesson yesterday that made me light-years better than I was, because I got adulation and amazement in studio. So I was inspired. Zach's recital, at which Ben played and Bryan turned pages, was a resounding success, contained some glorious music, and made me appreciate once more how awesome a pianist Ben really is. I'm so glad I get him.

And then, instead of opening night of Rhinoceros, I went to the orchestra concert. Superlativity across the board. They premiered a piece written by Karim Al-Zand, my tonal counterpoint teacher. It's a set of three City Scenes, and they played it twice (probably for recording reasons), and it was just as exciting the second time. The master's student in conducting took the podium for Sorcerer's Apprentice, and after intermission was the piece that owns my heart, Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances. Not only was it my favorite piece, it was done superbly; Larry stretched the tempos far beyond what I've heard anyone else dare, and it worked. Mmm.

I practiced for an hour after the concert because I felt like I could do amazing things, and I did for awhile, but then I got tired, and I'm still iffy on the high end of the Bell Song, and it feels like I'll never get it solid, so I walked over here.

So now I'm at Stephan's house, wondering when he'll get back from Rhino, because his parents are apparently in town this weekend, too, but I liked the movie we started at lunch and want to finish it. Plus, mama's in Lake Jackson to help Grandjo, so going home would be boring.
