No, really. I'm obsessing over this DVD. What makes it obvious is that I have to cajole the computer into playing it at all, so I have to keep track of how many times I've watched it by pushing the disc back in when the computer spits it out. I don't really know how many days it's been, but it seems like there was never a time when I didn't know this music inside out. I replay certain scenes and songs ad infinitum, taking note of every incredibly appropriate nuance, every amazing characterization, the occasional flaw that proves these people are not superhuman acting machines programmed into the characters they're playing, becoming them too completely to have a personality... I've never wanted more to be on the stage. This thing is inspiring me to practice, prepare, and rehearse; except that I have to stop watching it to do these things.
This is a good one for me to become totally immersed in, unlike many of my other obsessions (Stargate, LotR, House), because in this show there is a small chance that someday I will be able to play one of the parts I'm so enamored of. Even this semester I get to be involved peripherally in a production of this show. If I could only get this excited over every opera I'm likely to be in.
