I am hereby pitiful enough to draw life-affecting insights from HP fanfiction. Cassie Claire's DV series has been eating my brain the last week or so, and there are some kind of obvious, resonant things that she put into words I can't rephrase without obscuring:

"He walked away from you, you know. From all of us. It was his choice."
"I don’t know. Sometimes people walk away because they want you to leave them alone; sometimes they walk away to see if you care enough to follow them into hell. I think I went the wrong way."

"I've been called a lot of things in my life," said Draco, looking at the plate. "But never a vicious, cold-blooded piece of toast."

Draco tilted his head back and looked consideringly up at the sky. "Well, [love] is dirty," he said. "It's not some holy, exalted thing, you know. It's about appetite and wanting and need and all those other things that make people do ugly things to each other. There's no betrayal without love, no loss without it, no jealousy. Half the ugliness in this world comes from it. It cuts and burns and makes wounds that don't ever heal. Give me hatred any day. Now there's an emotion I can get behind. You always know where you stand with it."

Hermione so very rarely fussed with her appearance that Ginny often forgot how very pretty she could look when she tried. Hermione’s dark eyes went immediately to Harry, who had sat up on the bed and was looking at her, looking a little stunned. "You look beautiful," he said.
Hermione said nothing, just turned pink. Harry got up off the bed and went over to her and kissed her very gently on the cheek, brushing back a stray tendril of her hair as he did so. Ginny felt a sharp and irrepressible stab of envy go through her when she saw the look on his face - not so much that it was Harry in particular, but a painful wishing that someone, some boy, would someday look at her like that, with that expression in his eyes.

And thus we conclude the Pathetic Self-Insights session of this evening... Yesyes, I too, can have angst.

Hah!

I've always been a rather big fan of Cassandra Claire.... her entire Draco Trilogy is rather cool (though the shipping can get overwhelming ^_^) Draco Dormiens, Draco Sinister, Draco Veritas... fab. You've given me the urge to read it again (not a good thing, considering I'm busier than I've been in a long time ^_^)
