MMM birthday. I got up this morning and procrastinated while mama was gone, sitting in companionable silence with Bryan till the urge to make cookies overcame me. Andy and Wendy and I went to Whole Foods and got fancy ingredients, and I made three batches of cookies with chocolate-covered cherries, ginger, cranberries, mangoes, and almonds while they went to lunch (Bryan had just made me a sandwich, so I didn't need to go eat).

It was a nice afternoon with Gail's family and Gail (whom Andy had got from the airport that morning) and Robert came over, and I gave mama her gemshow opal and she liked it and the cookies. Then I had to split to get to the last Messiah concert, the free one at First Methodist. However, it was the most fun I've had yet with that piece. The audience was more into it than the ones at Jones Hall. I also had my first experience with the notorious violinists.

Ferenc Ilenyi, the guy three or four stands back who did the gypsy concerts and who did the Vivaldi for the Eight Seasons concert, is known among the sopranos as a hardcore sleaze. I'd never seen any evidence more damning than his talking to a series of chorus girls at breaks during orchestra rehearsals. Sergei, the Russian who helped on the gypsy concert and sits one stand behind Ferenc, has a similar but less extreme reputation. Before the concert I cast my gaze over the violin section and I happened to be looking at Sergei when he looked at me, so he blew me a kiss. It was less sleazy than sweet.

Bryan's set to come over here (my house) in the morning for us to take him to the airport. I'll miss him over break. I already miss Stephan and Ben.
