Messiah rehearsal was less repetitive, more stressful. We barely got done on time. Roger brought me home (to Stephan's) again, thankfully, and I finished my program notes. All I've got left now is the Ling paper (I didn't get to copy resources today, so I still have that sense of OTHER PEOPLE NEED THIS STUFF to contend with). Still, things are winding slightly down. I've been looking on Stephan's shelf, where a wealth of Wagnerian literature is stored, to see what I can do to get a head start on VW (or Veedub, as the boys have taken to calling the Verdi & Wagner seminar I'm breaking 20 hours to enroll in). So far Wagner's writings about himself are looking most interesting. I'd like to see what he has to say about appropriating and mangling Norse mythology the way he did for the Ring cycle. It's so often done in opera (not usually to Norse, but mythology of other cultures), but here there's a link to the thought process behind it.

But I'm not going to read that now. It's time for vegetation.
