There is no emoticon with a grin big enough to express my boundless glee at the way today has proceeded. Waking up, wishing Stephan happy birthday in the least suspicious manner possible, going to school, practicing while he had Satie, skulking about the couches waiting... Ben finally showed up and assigned me as a diversion to keep Stephan from going to History before Bryan could get his accordion there.

I waited around suspiciously, and when he came out, managed to direct his attention to a poster for a fantastic concert that we'd missed, ask him what kind of cookies he wanted, tell him various random things, and convince him that there was something else to tell him that I couldn't remember, before Bryan walked by and relieved me with a very conspicuous A-OK sign. Stephan still didn't notice. History was decent, being about getting the test back (we all did well), Mahler, and Strauss... But Dr. Bailey has earned a modicum of respect from me for being kind enough to allow Bryan and Ben to arrange with him in advance five minutes at the end of class so we could play and sing Stephan the tackiest Happy Birthday ever. In front of everyone. He didn't stop blushing and smiling for the next hour, as we went to Starbucks and got chai, coffee, an egg salad sandwich and a lemon bar, and he didn't seem to follow the logic of my paying for it until I reminded him there was a reason the boys sang him Happy Birthday. He liked the Borders gift card; I figured any attempt to actually buy him a book would not end well, since he either has all the books on any subject he's interested in, or suddenly becomes interested in an unrelated subject.

I just finished the cookies, and they're cooling in the kitchen; there's nothing like rocking out to Queen and Led Zeppelin while baking. And there's no opera workshop this afternoon! How could the day get better?
