I made it through the Vocal Rep test No. 1 of DOOM with enough time to spare to actually get to my coaching on time. And then, the coaching. Ye gods, the coaching.
I took my three Argentine songs in there to Tom expecting to be satisfied, maybe even pleased, with a session on them. Instead, I swooned, melted, threw passionate fits of despairing love... I heard beautiful stories from Tom that I'd never heard before, both from the piano and in words, about life and music. I love those songs, but they're oceans and planets more with Tom than the tiny micropscopic droplets of songs they are on any recording available. We talked for a long time about how life just goes by, and you can't try and hold it down; it doesn't work that way. That's why performance isn't a big deal, that's why vowels are pure, that's why music has an effect on people or not. It's just like life, and there it goes.
And then a chorale of less obscure but also beautiful rehearsal on pieces of life that just go by... Irving Fine's Hour-Glass set, which I'd like to transform into a set of fruits and eat forever.
And now the doom-mongering history test. Before ItW rehearsal. Before work, and study, all night.
Oh, yeah, and I have to have my recit. memorized by tomorrow afternoon. Well, I'll worry about that tomorrow afternoon.
