I stayed up too late last night teaching Stephan more of the history of rock. We managed to get most of the information off of the flow chart before adding some of our own, and then we (mama and I) started at the beginning (Elvis) and had him listen and burn cds as long as he could stay awake. We are such dorks. And it helps a great deal to have mama, who, by virtue of having actually been there when it was happening, has forgotten more about real rock than I could ever learn. Long live rock and roll!
Then this afternoon I woke up and saw Dan had called, so I called back and ended up going with him and Trevor and Burfy to meet Maconda and Kyle at Thai Village for a little before I had to go to my meeting with Gary Smith, the academic advisor for Shepherd, to talk about registration next year. It went unbelievably well, I think. I'll have my usual 19 hours, but I'll have both a distribution (Nanotech) and a Ling class I really want to take (Historical Ling), like I did this year. It's been great, and there'll be Vocal Rep, too. Which, I dunno, may be not so wonderful, considering my hatred of the Baroque period and its high placement in the Western Musical Canon. But I learned something good: I made the right choice taking German 201 instead of an intro, because that means I don't have to take two semesters of one of the three required languages for voice majors. A 200 class means I've already had a high enough level. So now all I have left is introductory Italian and French. Which, hopefully, I will do over some summer in a country where the language is spoken. Meanwhile, I'm having a fantastic time teaching the Diction professor Linguistics.
Speaking of which, I should do my Linguistics paper. It was due a week ago.
