Odd day. Slightly frustrating lesson without pianist, then rather thereapeutic rehearsal and gabbing with pianist. I love my repertoire right now, all of it, and I've never been able to say that before. It's nice. Sean drove me home and I discovered that it was Andy's birthday party today, so I helped clean house and cook (don't laugh, I'm pretty good at domesticity when there's Beatles songs playing all day and family is around) before the huge and amazing dinner was on the table. It really was gorgeous; I took pictures. It tasted just as good as it looked, as it always does when Grandjo's cooking. Then Robert (my Boeing/NASA employee ex-uncle-in-law who's now more a part of the family than the aunt he used to be married to) came with me to see Ruddigore (ha! show number three in three nights!), and I met Stephan and Lauren and Nick there. Stephan's protestations diminished till at the end he admitted that "Well, overall, that was... pleasant."

While it was once again true that the people I knew were the best ones in the show, it is also true that this time there were a few who were good whom I did not know. However, I must say this for Dan McNickle: he is usually very clear. Not only is his diction good and his accent intelligible, he also projects, which is more than I can say for anyone else on that stage but Andyr and Alex Hemsath. It was beyond pleasant, and I was quite impressed with the set and tech and how they were combined. It's worth seeing, especially if you know nothing about music. Robert liked it.

And then we came back (I didn't wait to be a fan on the receiving line, figuring I'll congratulate them when I see them in school), and everyone was gone but David, Grandjo and Andy. I tried the cream cheese frosting I helped make, and I must admit it was delicious. Andy explained the basic mechanics of the connection of the clutch to the transmission in a standard and how to use it. I like knowing how things work before I use them. It makes practicing easier if you know what the things you're doing are trying to accomplish.
