There's this dog that has been hanging around my house for the past week or so. He's eating our dogs' and cats' food and sleeping either on the doorstep or the back porch if he can get in the backyard, and squeaking to come in the house whenever he sees anyone through the glass doors. He follows me to school and gets in front of cars, though he usually stops at the church parking lot. Tonight he followed me all the way to Sid at my bike's top speed, dodging several admirers on the way whom he seemed to fear, to keep up with me. He stayed at the front door of Sid for awhile, then apparently went back to my house, because when mama and Roger and Debbie walked to Sid, he follwoed them all the way. He was curled up in front of the door when I got back. He's a nice-looking little mutt, maybe a Jack Russel mix of some kind, about half the size of prince with a brindle face and white back end, upright ears and short tail. I have no idea where he came from, but he seems to think we're his, and has for awhile. We're putting a Found Dog ad in the little local paper; hopefully someone will recognize him, because I hate to think he was dumped out here.

Another night, another thrill. I don't feel like I was as successful tonight as I was last night, but the show certainly was. Poor Dan is fighting some kind of respiratory/lymph issue, but he used it to his expressive advantage as much as he could, and Apology to a Cow was really amazing. Hopefully the rest of the cast has a stronger immune system than he does; spin-the-bottle will spread everything in a petri dish despite the alcohol, and even though I didn't play I have to do the same onstage.

Sid masters' part was fun. I have descended to the dark side; I ate a brownie. And a cookie. And another cookie. I don't have time to get fat between now and closing weekend, so I'll be okay. First time on sugar since before Thanksgiving. Augh. In any case, I'm beat again. I'll regret missing South Beach tonight, but I just can't do it.

My mom's notes for the orchestra, just because I want Sean to know-- They did a good job. It wasn't obtrusive, it was supportive. It wasn't too soft, it wasn't too loud (except at the beginning, when they were still balancing). It really added, and she was glued to the action on stage and never had occasion to look at the conductor; even when we looked at him for cues, we weren't making it obvious. And the chorus was excellent; she was surprised and impressed, at the opening song, at how strong they were.

Also, she thought Dan was amazing. Completely and utterly; she loved his cute noises at the beginning, his snorty crying during Show You A Thing Or Two, his impassioned Apology To A Cow--everything he did convinced her completely. She is a big fan.

She said very nice things about both Diego's and Hayley's voices, and how far they could go if they studied more intensely; she heard moments of vocal brilliance from both of them.

She also mentioned that she loves Vince, Parker and Paul; they're hilarious and they project well and their energy is the highest of anyone in the supporting cast. She loved Jesse's reverend, and thinks his voice is great. Matt's Daisy and Jon's Mrs. Taylor were hilarious to her, and she thought Jon's dress was perfect. She approved mightily of the directorial choices, especially during Children, Children (although it makes Dan and me look pretty tame by the end). The last scene, she said, was well-handled.

So, a positive review from my mother. She doesn't give them out like candy, either. :) There were several notes for me, of both positive and constructive varieties.

Roger had this to say:
I really did enjoy the show tonight. I was particularly struck by the
really good acting both you and Bat Boy did. It occurred to me on the way
home that both of your characters evolved considerably, and you did good
jobs in that. Although it is not so obviously a part of the plot that your
character evolves, that's certainly the way you played it.

I'm feeling good about next weekend.

Yeah, I forgot to mention he followed me when I walked to your house, and then was on my doorstep again when I got back. I thought it might just have been the smell of the cookies, but goodness.
