So today was Tony's recital. As always there was the primping and the poofing and makeup and hair. And then, I hear, the actual performance was not too bad. I wasn't out there for much of it, but I'm sure he did fine.
The reception at Spaghetti Warehouse downtown was fun; I sat with my mom, Julia's mom and Tony's cousins at the next table, keeping up with the crazy voice-teacher conversation and eating the occasional food and congratulating people and giving Reggie directions when he called. He made it eventually, and we walked the four blocks to the Wortham for Lysistrata. It was quite good; I was impressed kind of against my will, but apparently I'm easy to impress. I liked it. We saw Jennifer Moore, the amazing soprano in my studio who's doing the Davide Penitente solo with Graf. She said it was walking with skill the fine line between pandering and really good, and it was really good. The play, of course, is hilarious; they added a few references to make it even more so, but it was also sad and cathartic, and it had some good melodies without being the bane of Andrew's anti-Romantic existence. He might enjoy it.
And then I got home and my mom turned me back into the 80s in preparation.
I feel so much better now.
