Rocks, glorious rocks! stopped at a rock store in Bellaire on the way to Cici's for food. I now have about 3 pounds of green aventurine, tumbled, and about 2 1/2 pounds of random tumbled rocks, including quartz (clear and rose and a couple blacks), tigereye, amethyst, sodalite, citrine, snowflake osidian, agate, and tons of ugly brown and red jasper. And a tumbled amethyst bead bracelet and one of sodalite (blue, kinda lapis-ish, white inclusions). Now my head-thingies shall be decked and adorned! And they came with interesting little papers giving their supposed gem-properties. I'll list them here, because I think you people would find them interesting and I want you to pick stones to represent yourselves anyway. And there's a bookmark, too, with info on fewer rocks; I'll put it in colons after the card and my comments. I have a feeling Nia's got aventurine.

And there you have it. If you believe it hard enough, it might be true. And I only have so many of those. Odd it didn't way anything about the most expensive ones, like ruby or diamond. It has a little blurb at the top saying how Egyptian tombs are filled with gemstones, there are references to stones throughout the bible and a lot of Indian American lore has to do with gems... Intersting. There are also little cards that came with the bracelets, giving the mineral info of amethyst, aventurine, and lapis. The lapis one has further lore: associated with power, wisdom, and love, symbolized universal truth to Egyptians and valued it equal to gold. Odd, I thought they ground it up and used it for eye shadow. No, that was malachite. Hmm.
While eating at Cici's we said how convenient it would be if J was there, cause I only eat the tops and she only eats the bottoms of pizzas, and I hate to waste. Mama wondered why she only ate the bottoms, and it came up that she's a vegetarian for an unusual reason: she doesn't think it's right to eat soething she couldn't kill by herself. We extrapolated that she probably should be living in a mud hut and going without books and air conditioning and plumbing and cars, if she feels that way. I mentioned that I'd always felt kinda guilty using things I wouldn't know how to fix, let alone make, and I wanted to learn how to make at least the basics; that's one reason metalworking is so interesting to me. I wanna be a moat, not a joat. She said one thing about Daddy and a good thing too, was that he knew how to do most things, and was pretty capable. Grr. Other things he could have taught me, besides piano and theory. I'd be a prodigy if he'd lived. A selfish thing to say, I know, but...
On the way back from Cici's, we got stopped at the tracks for two trains. One had 97 cars each with a box, and three engines, the other had 99 boxes and a string of empty platform cars, four engines. I marvel at their strength; your average pickup can't even pull one box, and it uses gasoline, and with great effort I can put out kinetic energy equivalent to three drops of gasoline (museum activity stats are fun). What do train engines run on? Wow.

Hmmm... you know, I've always wondered why all the stones have good effects. Don't you think there'd be bad ones, too? O.o Not all stones can be good... o.O Okay I go now. Very interesting.
