Once we overcame the terrible inertia of bed and sleep, Seth and Reggie and I looked around Motrose area for places to have improv gigs. The Rothko Chapel said "probably", the Sculpture Garden said "call us, "we decided the big chessboard at the Black Lab is probably not going to kick us out for playing there, and same with the fountains at Rice. We went into the St. Thomas chapel and it's gorgeous, but there was no one there to ask. It has 5-second reverb.
But the coolest thing of all today... we were going to ask St. Paul's methodist, when we walked over from the Fine Arts museum asking about the sculpture garden, but there was no one there. We checked all the doors, and one was open. We snuck into the sanctuary. Overwhelming stained glass, and the acoustics called to us. There was nothing for it. We drove home really fast and got a cello and a guitar and the laptop, and after about half an hour of frantic searching for adapters, batteries and preamps, we went as inconspicuously as possible back to the sanctuary and recorded 45 minutes of insane improvisation before we mistook a few squeaks for the Wrath of God and decided we really didn't want to be caught.
The track we recorded it on is STILL exporting from Garageband into iTunes. It looks to be about 2/3 done, now, and we started it as soon as we got back, around 5:30.
Seth has done Houston. He saw HSO, the Foundation Concert, ate at Cabo and General Joe's, and improvised in St. Paul's. So he went home. He'll be back, though. And we'll do it again. And Reggie will have piano, and there will be whispers, and it will be fun. High Adventure.
