I still don't know who the dude was, but his recital inspired me to the point that my knee hurts, probably because I'm not used to running much. I missed the bus on the way there and had to run halfway or I would be late, and then I was so psyched after that I ran most of the way home just out of sheer awe.

The Beethoven sonata he did was D major, Op. 10 #3. It's very cute... not terribly serious except in the second movement, and the last one sounds all musical-joke-ish except it's dignified.. it has deceptive cadences all over the place, and big pauses, and it ends on one note instead of a chord.. quirky. And amazing.

He did make three mistakes throughout the three Rach pieces, which were g minor (YES), D major, and B-flat Major. The coolest ones. D major is #4 prelude in general... it's very sad for being major, but it was so lyrical and his voicing was incredible and he brought out melodic lines I didn't even know existed, though sometimes the accompaniment figures were kind of muddy, because he de-emphasized them so much to bring out the melodies.

In the g minor one though, I almost burst out laughing cause he was so smooth about his mistake. I'm sure nobody else in the audience obsessed over that piece enough to know he made a mistake. He didn't play a wrong note or anything, he just... after the dreamy middle section, he went back to the marchy thing but he did it the first-section way, without the little dissonances, and then after a couple measures switched seamlessly into the right section. It was absolutely mind-boggling.

The Albeniz too, El Puerto, Mallorca and Triana. I am going to have to get those from the library

HE PLAYED
PROKOFIEV'S 7TH
ARGH

His touch was so gentle-looking it didn't look like he was depressing the keys at all, but everything was a full, firm sound. It's like his hands were just dancing
I still don't know who he was, because his program notes just talk about the pieces. New piano god to worship.
