Yesterday I listened to Rach's Symphonic Dances a total of ten times in a row; five with two pianos, five with orchestra. What was I doing during all this? Two and a half hours at the library finding Renn music, two and a half more in the dorm changing the arrangements from voice/guitar to voice/viola/cello/bass. I have two done, and the rest of one book and five other books to go. Hah. I bet not all of them are this cool, though. Andalusian troubadours are the coolest.

The scariest Halloween-related experience I have had so far is the geriatric dancing at Tony's parents' Halloween party. Yes, alcohol does release inhibitions. This is not always a good thing. Agh. We retreated to Led Zeppelin DVDs, and Tony is definitely a reincarnation of the still-living Robert Plant. He's not blond, no, but if he were completely reincarnated, Robert Plant would have to be dead. Instead, he's the flamboyant shadow. Julie was a little taken aback, I think. But she always seems to be. Though she seemed to appreciate the cool nerdiness of Robert's D&D game when we stopped by his house on the way to taking her home. They were fighting four ogres with five characters and all the help their sorcerer could summon. They were losing.

The memories I have of Robert's games aren't even that extensive; he's been playing (and with some of the same guys) for over 35 years almost every single Friday (or Saturday, whichever is better) night, every week, and always with the popcorn and sweet root beer. I've stayed up with them, permitted graciously to watch their campaigns and join the banter, enough times over the years I've been here that most of the regulars know who I am, having seen me grow up once in a while. I love the way the game is played, the methodical randomness carefully observed. It moves so slowly when it's done properly, but the story is that much more real. It reminds me of what has been said about baseball; it's a game of leisure and amiable opposition.

Hmmm. We now have even more really cool cloth. To make what with, I don't know. But it is cool. It is as cool as the second movement of the Rach. Which is SO a huge Halloween waltz, a grandiose ballroom with vampires dancing. It's a movie soundtrack, it has to be.

People! It is the best holiday of the year! SOMETHING has to happen. Fire must be had.

I have made no progress, but I have had ideas. It will be cool. I will write it, and it will be cool.
