At the comp club meeting today we decided how the piece we're going to write for him is going to work. Reggie and I will write two movements, and Andrew and Rainey will write the other two. It's going to be a modified quartet, with one of each string instead of two violins and no bass. We got some good ideas.

We also want to have random improvisations at random pretty places that don't object; like at Rice, by the fountain, or in the sculpture garden by museum district. That's one of the things he taught us, and we hadn't done any improvisations in a long time before today after school. I think it's really difficult to work with three strings and a voice, though; I may bring my cello to future ones.

I don't post lyrics often, and I hate to do it in response to such a personal event, but I was obsessed with this song and how it fit my life before it happened, and it fits so eerily well even now, even better, that I think I can use it in this context. Moody Blues, "The Story In Your Eyes."

I've been thinkin' bout our fortune,
and I've decided that we're really not to blame
all the love that's deep inside us now is still the same,

and the sound we make together
is the music to the story in your eyes.
It's been shining down upon us now, I realize.

Listen to the tide slowly turning,
wash all our heartaches away.
We're part of a fire that is burning,
and from the ashes we can build another day.

But I'm frightened for the children,
that the life that we are living is in vain,
that the sunshine we've been waiting for will turn to rain...

When the final night is over,
and it's certain that the curtain's gotta fall,
I can hide inside a sweet, sweet love forevermore
.
