The dress rehearsal for the vocal department's collaboration with the Symphony was this morning. We trundled off in buses from school to Jones Hall, and got off at the stage door. First of all, the sign-in sheets for the pops series this weekend are taped down to the security counter, and my name is on one... A cool feeling, to show school people. Then I knew how to find everything because Jones Hall backstage is preeeetty durn familiar to me. I led them down the two long flights of stairs to the cool rehearsal room I'd described...
Once onstage, I said hi to the percussionists and the conductor recognized me and the principal bassist (went to school with my mom) nodded at me. I freaked the freshmen on either side of me out by telling them it's a tradition for a percussionist to run away with a soprano every concert, and then told them some stories about last night's concert and the gyrations the poor drummers have to go through to hit all the toys... George had to jump over the chair in front of the gong to get from the xylophone to the bass drum. Heh.
And half the music we're doing with school is the same as music we're doing with HSC... I lent my HSC copy of Twelve Days to Tony because his is still in Brenham, because I got one from school, too. And I have the actual music for the sing-along, instead of just the words, like everybody else (except Rebecca, who's also singing in HSC Pops, though I don't know if she's using it). Hee.
I have four concerts tomorrow and three on Sunday. None of them is in the same consecutive place except the first two. We'll see how I get everywhere. And how much sleep I get (or how many cardses I play ;) ).
