The remainder of the trip went swimmingly; I went to the CI show on Tuesday night and three different people literally screamed and dropped everything to hug me, which is gratifying. The show was lovely, Hankus was glad to see me, as was Anthony, and Simon even stayed for a bit at the show (we'd hung out a bit at the coffee shop formerly known as ERC, and he'd introduced me to his friend Lex, who then stayed to chat for about an hour, and, oddly enough, I enjoyed it) to make fun of Peter, who was in the singer-songwriter ensemble. It was good to see everybody, and Tony met me at Uno's after the show for a late dinner and a chat, and walked me to his new fancy apartment.
And then Wednesday morning I went to the CI meeting, which was about as I remembered, lots of camaraderie and excellent musical ideas, but also a certain amount of overthinking and academic wringing of minds. Everybody wants me to come back, and I would maybe like to do the CI DMA, but... maybe not. But maybe.
Brent stayed for a little of the meeting, which he loved and was impressed with (he admitted maybe he should do a CI master's), and then got me a "something bacon object egg biscuit" as his text read, which I loved. We hung out and really talked in the coffee shop, and then he took me to the bus station (the trip somewhat tarnished by the ticket he got for parking at a spot unclearly scheduled for street-cleaning).
In New York, Ben met me at the bus stop, and who should step out of the shadows but Zach Averyt? He was in town for auditions, and he and Ben had just come from running through some of his rep in a Juilliard practice room. I was sorry to have missed it, but we had a fun dinner at Tick Tock, and ran down to Macy's to take a picture of us holding a sign for Tom (and Duane Reade to get a card for him) before I got back on the bus for Philadelphia.
Stephan received me happily, and we stayed up far too late (but not really) catching up and making a celebratory trek to IHOP for blintzes as is our tradition (they had only Danish crepes, which are not quite the same, but still good). Stephan had overdone it at the gym the day prior, so we mostly stayed in and talked and watched things, which was fine by me. There was a delicious Argentine lunch, and lovely fancy meat loaf for dinner, but mostly the highlight was hanging. Brent even skyped. And I got to FaceTime Stephan's boyfriend of about a year, whom I'd just missed in person.
We stayed up too late again, so it was hard to get up for the bus to New York, but I managed it, and found Eric in Greeley park. We had a good catch-up over good omelets, and he guided me to the airport shuttles (who were very aggressive in competition with each other to attract passengers). The wait, and the flight, were unduly tiring, but I made it home in due time on Friday night (as did David, who's been in Mexico city for two and a half months).
Yule on Saturday was quite excellent, though I missed the Bardic Championship (but that's fine, because I was doing a music job, so who's the bardic champion now?), and I helped with serving the feast, and court was entertaining, unlike many previous Courts of Their Majesties Rex and Regina Ansteorrae I've attended. Several people spent awhile talking to me and helped me figure out how to go about learning to Bard, and he I helped with strike (do they call it strike? breakdown, I guess) which the lovely couple Wolf and Andrius (who hosted armoring at their house a couple weekends ago) were in charge of, since Wolf was the autocrat of the event (he did a lovely job) and Andrius was the muscle (he and I put alllllll the tables back in the closet, they were heavy, it was fun). I'm not sure I would've stayed if they hadn't been my ride, but it was fun.
And then work again. Church, bleh, Paul's ensemble, all right, and then Laura came over and we finally got to Avengers! Which she appeared to love. And I made her a plate of Thanksgiving leftovers. It was excellent. I showed David some Minchin, which he seemed to appreciate.
Joodles is almost done with his extremely preoccupying workload for the semester, so we had lunch and caught up on campus, which is always a highlight.
I must get some bass onto the tracks I finished up with Brent.
