Liz came over yesterday afternoon and we exchanged personal epics while listening to much appropriately personal-epic-related music. I do so appreciate it when people succumb to my flooding their consciousness with my musical enthusiasm. Liz hadn't slept enough (part of her epic), so she occasionally dozed on the floor during my explication of transcendent choralism, which was just as well, because I was simultaneously skyping part of my own epic.
We parted ways at the Porter Square station when I went up the lengthy lengthy escalators to be picked up by Hankus and Linda for the gig. However, both Liz and Julie (who also brought her mom) made it to Newton South High School for said gig, and Liz was kind enough to run my camera during nearly the entire show, so as soon as I review (and receive Linda's ok on) the videos, maybe the internets can have a peek at how the gig went. The audience certainly seemed to like it. A bunch of them lined up to congratulate Hankus, Linda, Grant, Chris, and even me. Some of them even came over specifically just to talk to me. Which was weird, but gratifying. It was less of a struggle to figure out how to answer congratulations this time than it sometimes has been, because I could fall back on praising Another Realm and appreciating the opportunity to work with them.
Today, I was looking forward to practicing with Simon and Andy. It was not to be. Andy had a killer headache and couldn't even make it to school, and Simon would rather reschedule and get some homework done (it is Sunday, after all). So now I'm looking forward to Thursday for even more reasons (as if Songwriting and Ear Training weren't enough to make Thursdays great). Instead of practicing with the boys, I got in a good hour of shedding Pianists. I can now almost-smoothly play all the sections of that song in a row while also singing the melody. I did some work on Hold the Line and Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, too. However, the major accomplishment was tossing off a melody for What I Wouldn't Do. For verses and chorus, at least. There needs to be one more tune (minimally) as well as some kind of break.
Meanwhile, things to learn keep accumulating, now that I don't have to worry about the Another Realm gig anymore. World Ensemble, two Peter Row classes, and Anthony's ensemble tomorrow. Ethnomusicological reading and listening assignments, here I come! Cumbia lyrics, avast!
