Yesterday's class attendance by my mom was nearly total, too. She didn't come to the library with me though, which is just as well. Geeze, I spent most of today's free time and yesterday's in there. 12-page (double-spaced) paper due on Saturday. Normally I would be scrounging for extra paragraphs, but normally I pick narrower topics. I don't really have a thesis, but so far I have 12 single-spaced pages of quotes relating to my topic. Um, I should think of something to say.

I had a rehearsal with Lautaro this morning for his Global Attractions piece, the national anthem of Aibmoloc. It's partially a political statement, partially a musical one, but he's so earnest and enthusiastic about it, and appreciative of the time and effort of anyone who participates, that it's exhilarating to be part of it. I'll even stand for wearing a superdiva soprano gala gown to further the effect he's going for.

After the couple spare hours I spent in the library because Songwriting was canceled (after-concert class, naturally), it was time for Methodology. I really do love that class with Hankus as the teacher. We're in the middle of presenting everyone's recomposition projects, and it's genuinely inspiring to sit there and listen consecutively to other people's imaginations take over pieces that mean a lot to them. This afternoon, after Chris played his fantastically emotional cover/rearrangement of Boy With A Coin, Hankus said it reminded him of the way I made '39 into something bigger than the original, and Chris said hearing mine was a not insignificant influence. I had no idea what to say. I still don't. What a thought.

It would have been another couple hours in the library later, but I went home instead to eat some food and practice Arian's music. He asked me to record with him at 4 for his promotional (reaudition) recording. Apparently the sheet music fell out of my pocket at some point, and it was awfully hard to try and learn the piece by ear from the guitar guide recording I had him make when he gave it to me and we looked through it.

It kept defeating me. But we worked on it some more when I met him to record. I eventually (over the course of an hour) got through at least one, possibly two takes without any mistakes and with decent vocal quality. I insisted that since I'd heinously unprofessionally lost the sheet music and failed to learn the part before the recording session, he was under no obligation to pay me. He said he was, since I was one of maybe two people in the school who could sing the part (it was pretty hard to read). Since he didn't have money on him, I won. And since mama and I are leaving on a jet plane tomorrow morning, he won't catch me with it this weekend.

So we're off to San Antonio to see Andy get married. I hope she's cool. It'll be good to see him again; it's been a long time. And I hope there's internet at the hotel, 'cause this paper draft's due on Saturday evening.
