I managed to confine the stress of juries to a two-hour period, instead of letting it encompass all of yesterday. It didn't suck, didn't win... I never got steady and focused, so it was generally a failure, but it was the same kind of failure I've been giving in juries for three years now, so they probably couldn't tell, since Tom left for Messiah orchestra rehearsal before my time came and he's the only one who hears me regularly. He did make Kathy promise to have me sing a Guastavino, and that was marginally more successful than the Mozart I started with (though I remembered the name when I announced it, which is a feat: Als Luise die Briefe ihres ungetreuen Liebhabers verbrannt) and the Walton they asked for (Daphne).

It was a relief for it to be over, though I spent a bit of time wandering about with Keith looking for important people with keys to Susanne's studio, since Dan locked all my stuff (including my keys) in there. Eventually we realized Dan was in Messiah rehearsal because he's a soloist, and watched the end of it. Dan helpfully opened the door and took me to Stephan's after a detour to the library.

Before all the company arrived, there was an exceptionally comfortable hour spent with the four of us in the living room. I wore Bryan's hat for half the evening, and it covers my entire head, including my face. I was warm and even slightly cuddly, a nearly unheard-of state for me in any company but that of family and Ailurians. But there we were, me, Bryan and Ben on the couch and Stephan in an armchair. Ben and Bryan had been teasing Stephan earlier by twining their legs and lying in each others' laps, and the teasing sort of morphed into sincerity. I was both entertained and reassured; there's a lot of feeling in this house, and I'm sometimes overwhelmedly grateful to be included in even parts of it.

I retreated to Stephan's room for the night when a zillion people arrived, and though I asked Stephan to wake me before ten, Ben didn't wake him up because Bryan didn't wake Ben up, so mama called at 10:13 wondering if she should come get me for rehearsal. I managed a shower before she arrived, and we hurried downtown to Pops orchestra rehearsal.

They went in program order, so we had to sit through a bunch of stuff, but it's interesting to note how moving How the Grinch Stole Christmas can be in the right context. It'll be a good show, I guess, but I keep wanting my own, more competent, more exceptional ensemble... Narg. I shouldn't get ahead of myself.

Back at Stephan's after rehearsal, I took him to the library in his car, and then Bryan went to get some scores for us to partsing, since we don't have overwhelming amounts of work today. Much.

So I guess I'll do some Ling while he's gone.
