Shards to the first genuine bad mood I've had in several months. Logic was fine, if condescendingly basic, but if I had known we were doing bel canto today in history, I would have overcome all my guilt complexes to skip class. Few things in music frustrate me more, and it was particularly vexing that the example he chose to play at length was Marilyn Horne doing Una voce poco fa, which Dr. Farwell's been after me to try on for size since the second semester of last year.

Okay, bad mood completely eradicated. Stephan came bounding in the door screaming about good news and holding something behind his back... Guess what arrived in his mail today? Betsy sent him the DVD of Windward's production of Bat Boy! It is a horrible and wonderful thing to see. We got to the end of Dance With Me, Darling before he had to go to class, and he made me promise not to watch anymore until he got back. All of Shepherd Singers will be spent in gleeful anticipation. I'll write my invented instrument piece later; I've decided to use my laptop, so it'll take me maybe ten minutes to record something and then take it down.

It's such an experience to see another production, just having finished a show. I regret that it couldn't have gotten ehre sooner, because there are definitely things I would have changed in my own performance if I'd seen this before we'd closed.

It's definitely high school, but they had space and room to do a lot of things I really admired. Their cage was phenomenal, and allowed their Bat Boy to hang upside down! Their Children, Children was of course a copout, and Stephan is continually begging my forgiveness for it, but their Bat Boy was so terribly lovable and then freakily dangerous... Their Dr. Parker was an utter nerd, a marionette whom you pitied and then were completely freaked out when he was a psycho... their Meredith didn't act too well, and their Shelley didn't have to act, because her character was her personality. Man, and I had to work so hard.

Singing was nowhere near as good, but they had a professional band who had a full week and a half of dress rehearsals with the cast. I am so jealous. And I am, and always will be, jealous of their Shelley's figure. I will never look like that.

But now I am going to help Stephan perform his Missa Automobilis. And then I will write my own piece for Laptop and Typist.
