For once I remembered a dream! It conclusively demonstrates my musical geekhood. Sean and I were auditioning people to be second piano in... I don't know what, but we were using Stars and Stripes (hey, it's a dream) as the piece to demonstrate ability to improvise and do chord changes by ear. We went through several girls who couldn't figure out chord progressions, Sean on a Kurzweil and the girls on my piano. The last one looked obnoxiously pretty and well-put-together, and as we came to the improv section of the audition, she caught everything decently enough to put some licks on top. We got to the last phrase of Stars and stripes, and Sean half-cadenced and told her to reharmonize the end. I even demonstrated with a fully-diminished-seventh instead of just a minor chord, but she couldn't get to the end. Sean finished it for her with a crazy gorgeous fusion of well-voiced jazz and Rachmaninoff chords. It surprised me.
Now, I think I'm going to go back to sleep for as long as I can. I feel like I could start the day now, but I'll have a bigger advantage if I stock up on energy.
