I proclaim to the world that I am done with my German homework. I'm barely above water in that class. Now to the Monteverdi paper. This sucks. I was going to go to comp club on Friday, and the Gem Show this weekend. Oh, well. Life can't be idyllic all the time.

I need more Linguistics classes. If I get out into the world and decide I don't like the way opera is run, what am I going to do with just a voice degree? Ensemble singing? The biggest reason I'm doing this in the first place (aside from loving it) is that I absolutely can't stand the idea of being a person to which the label "amateur" applies in any way musically. I can stand being an amateur metalworker, I'm kind of proud of my amateur artist status, and no native monolingual speaker is not an amateur at English, but I'd really like to be a high-level historical or reconstructive linguist. I know enough IPA that my diction classes are laughable, and I seem to have an intuitive grasp of some pronunciation issues that elude most people, but it's all stuff I picked up on the way to class. I want to be good at something because I worked at it and learned something, for once, instead of because I accidentally started out knowing more.
