Composition meeting at 2 was interesting... instead of having a chaotic improv session, we (generally, in referring to any kind of "we" in composition, I'm referring to the Founding Three: Reggie, Andrew and I) had our pieces looked at, critiqued and given suggestions for improvement. I apparently leave out half of the most important things; I rarely mark dynamics, and only the least obvious articulation... and possibly the texture of my conspiracy duet will not work very well because it's too crowded in one register. Yes. Well, Then was the Foundation for Modern Music concert, which was tremendous, much better than the last one. Reggie's dad made him leave for a piano lesson right before the last two sets, which were the best... I talked to Avalon afterwards, and he'll make me a copy of tonight's recording of the Barnraising, because I absolutely loved that (I gushed at the composer, who was there) and there was no cd of it to buy. So I will get one anyway and show it to Reggie, cause he missed it. And the Piazzolla at the end he was looking forward to so much. Poor boy.

After the concert was a reception at which there were stupendous lemon bars and stupid stupid open bowls of champagne anybody could just dip from expecting it to be apple juice or punch or something (it was terrible... I drank a whole mouthful. There were also very good cookies and pieces of cheese, and lots of composers and performers. Avalon sort of acquired us some momentum and invited us to the pahty (Errollyn's English, and he was making fun of her) afterwards at this random house in River oaks. We went, and exclaimed at the gorgeous moon on the way, and socialized with various elite aspects of the Houston and visiting NYC music world... I was introduced to a few of the cooler ones by Avalon as the 17-year-old-who's-writing-an-opera... I don't think I've felt so flattered and embarassed since... well, my senior recital was a week ago, so never mind. Anyway, it was fun, and there was lots of cream cheese to smush on crackers. And an interesting fountain in the pool outside. Once again, the intensity of these creative people makes me so tired... Spending half a day with Reggie and then half an evening in the vicinity of Avalon is just overwhelming.
