But not when you're trying to go to sleep. Agh, I have to think about something else.

Tony: I checked out a CD of Carmina from the library today... two of them in fact... the Orff version and another one.
Me: Orff version? I don't think he's contemporary enough to have conducted a recording, is he?
Tony: I mean, there's more than one Carmina Burana... there's one by Clemencic Consort.. same words, different music
Me: Ah. I've never heard Consort. Orff did Carmina Catulli, too, songs of Catullus... Catullus, Latin poet, dirty old man.

And so he explained all the verses of this one song...
...
Tony: 9. Er warf mir uf daz hemdelin, corpore detecta, er rante mir in daz purgelin cuspide erecta.
Me: Oh, wow. At least they're being metaphorical
Tony: 10. Er nam den chocher unde den bogen, bene venabatur! der selbe hete mich betrogen. "ludus compleatur!".
Tony: hee. there it all is
Me: Now, there's a worthy expletive...
Tony: he hunted well and truly.. hee
Me: Cuspide erecta!
Tony: haha!
Tony: translation- upstanding lance
Tony: oh wow! this is a duet between a guy and a girl with a small mens ensembleish chorus
Me: It's closer to point standing. It's not a lance, per se, but the end of one, or any pointy thing...oh?
spoiledrichboy05: hee.. the woman (or maybe countertenor) sounds so despairing wile the guy is all boisterous..
Tony: I actually need to go... I need to finish watching Cleopatra with Fayma... the old Elizabeth Taylor version... will you be on later?
Me: Possibly
Tony: kay... talk to ya later.. I'll pop in and out for about an hour and a half before it'll be done
Me: Have fun, then
Tony: I shall... I'll let you meditate on the poetry for now..
Me: All right then. It's poetry worthy of meditation...
Me: Oh, this is no hour-and-a-half with which you torture me, leaving my mind to dwell forever in the gutter beneath the lime tree without you...
Me: Soon enough I must retire seeking rest for my wholesome pursuits tomorrow, but my repose will ever be corrupted with your wrenching absence...

I spent the morning getting paint all over me (and the kitchen ceiling), cleaning the tops of all the cupboards where no one ever looks, and cleaning the vent cover, which looked like it had more hair than a lot of men... Used up two sponges.

Avalon called at quarter to 2 to rmind me of the composers' club meeting then, and I convinced mama to let me go. We had fun, and now I have more deadlines. Hmm. But that will help me get stuff done. I'm supposed to have the Conspiracy duet finished by next Sunday.

Tony's calling...

Yes, Tony conversation.

Anyway, after composition meeting I convinced Reggie's mom to give me a ride home and they played a Kabalevsky cello concerto in the car and wow. I also convinced him to come in my house and at least hear the piano (he was all mad cause he just got a 5-footer and I told him I have a concert grand with lots of bass) and he was impressed, I think (I like to show off the piano).

Yes, so Tony just called, and he likes Carmina, and I'm mad cause he gets to sing the men's parts and I don't. Gra. I am hungry, and will thus go get food in the newly-immaculate kitchen.
