HSC rehearsal yesterday was nearly intolerable; I had to take my watch off and put it in my pocket or the time wouldn't move more than two minutes between each eon-long check. The women's movement is pretty, though. And I had fun observing social interaction around me at Stag's Head afterwards. There was aguy from another choir there, and he ended up leading the table in all kinds of musical revivals for an hour or so after everybody was drunk enough to be very loud (doesn't take much; less than non-driving-drunk). We did most of Oklahoma and the Music Man. I think they were surprised at how much I knew of Cain't Say No. I learned it by osmosis when Jenniffer had it last year.
Carmina rehearsal today was unhappily short; he went through everything in part I again, then let the girls go so he could work on In Taberna with the guys. Not that I blame him; it'll take a lot ofwork, especially for those of them who have never sung it. There are a freakin' lot of words. I wonder if I remember them.
In taberna quando sumus
non curamus quid sit humus
sed ad ludum properamus
cui semper insudamus
quid agantur in taberna
ubi nummus est pincerna
hoc est opus ut queratur
si quid loquar audiatur...
Hoc est opus ut queratur, si quid loquar audiatur!
Quidam ludunt quidam bibunt
quidam indiscrete vivunt
sed in ludo qui morantur
esits quidam denudantur
ibi nullus timet mortem
bibunt omnes, sine lege!
(polka!)
bibit hera, bibit herus,
bibit miles, bibit clerus,
bibit iste, bibit illa
bibit servus cum ancilla.
bibit velox, bibit piger,
bibit albus, bibit niger
bibit constans, bibit vagus,
bibit rudis, bibit magus,
bibit pauper et egrotus,
bibit exul et ignotus,
bibit puer, bibit canus,
bibit presul et decanus,
bibit soror, bibit frater,
bibit anus, bibit mater
bibit iste, bibit ille,
bibit centum, bibit mille!
Parum sexcente nummate
durant cum immoderate
bibunt omnes sine meta
quamvis bibant mente leta
sic nos rodunt omnes gentes
et sic erimus egentes
qui nos rodunt confundantur
et cum iustis non scribantur...
Io, io, io, io, io, io ioio...
...
Io!
Yep. Oops. I didn't really need to do that. Oh, well. Anyway, that's what they guys are learning for the last half of the rehearsal. Aah, Enterprise.
